How Do I Really Know? by Shanyn Silinski

Philippians 4:8 NIV Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

How do I know? How does anyone really know?  We know because God took the time to tell us! Philippians 4:8 as a sample tells us a lot of things we need to know.  That God needs us to understand.

When the world is getting us down and it does, we can think upon these things and feel God working in us and around us.

This verse is so key to me, it tells me so much that I forget.

I forget what is true…like love. Like faith. Like God’s promises.

I forget what is noble…husbands taking time to talk, doing something just because it is right.

I forget what is right…not right for me or for right now, but what is right in God’s eyes.

I forget what is pure…unblemished, untainted and so redeemed (yes you! Yes me!)

I forget what is lovely…dirty boy faces, messy Mama hair, wild flowers and you.

I forget what is admirable…not worthy of being an idol, not doing what gets the best spin or press.

I forget that if it is excellent and praiseworthy it is already from God.

When we think about these things we cannot help but be drawn closer to God, they are His after all. Just as we are His.  He sees in us the true, the noble, the right, the pure, the lovely, the admirable and it is because He is admirable and praiseworthy.

Redeemed by grace and loved not because of what I am or can do but because He choose us.

He chose you.

He chose me.

Humble thanks tumble from my lips as I think of what that really means!

  3. How wonderful, this post!

    It’s still early in the day in my neck of the woods, but I’ve been feeling….a little down since waking up. I ran some errands, and as I was pulling back in my driveway, I voiced my feelings to the Lord and asked that he would send me a word of encouragement today.
    Ever faithful that He is…here it is! That word that I needed to lift my spirits and remind me of the goodness of my Father!
