Hoarders

The A&E show, Hoarders, has been a huge hit. When I watch it, I have to tell you, it makes me cringe and my skin crawl. I find myself thinking, well at least my house doesn’t look like that. It’s not that bad.

What goes on the lives of those who end up on this show? What have they been through that has caused them to build up an empire of yuck around them? While what is seen on screen is gross, it makes my heart hurt. There is so much more going on than the mess. I pray they get the help they need.

Most of us are no different than these hoarders. Yes, I just said that. And I bet some of you are ready to argue. But hear me out. What are you hoarding in your heart? Resentment, un-forgiveness, jealousy, offense, anger, fear, bitterness, judgment?

We have the Master organizer on our side. He washes our hearts white as snow. A fresh start is handed to us and in no time at all, we begin to fill that clean heart up all over again.

Just like a hoarder who cannot keep up with the stuff of life unless they are taught to do it daily, we will start hoarding junk in our hearts unless we make a practice of cleaning up and taking it to the cross on a daily basis.

How long has it been since you did some housecleaning in your heart? Are things beginning to pile up? Let me encourage you to do some spring cleaning with Jesus. He’s a pro!

Repent for what you are harboring and ask to be refreshed.

I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint Jeremiah 31:25

Lord Jesus, give us eyes to see our own faults and things we are storing up that we need to let go. Help us to forgive others as you have forgiven us. Speak grace into our hearts, minds, and actions so that we may show the world your love. ~ Amen

  1. I love this blog! You are a very talented writer. thx for sharing, Mel.

  2. I think I saw a bit of this earlier today. I was making pancakes with a new bag of mix and I ruined them one after another.. I looked at the 4th pancake, burned. I said to myself, “I can’t do this right.” And then I laughed. I haven’t done this right yet but all I have ruined is 4 pancakes. I don’t think it’s the end of the world. But it is a new beginning, of not repeating the lies of my childhood.

  3. Solid blog site. I got a lot of great information…and I even laughed a bit.

  4. Looking at this room, I may say our room is isn’t bad enough! Haha! Well.. but I must admit ours is quite messy too! I don’t hoard things, but still it’s messy!
