Dealing With Depression Day 31

Day 31 of 31 days of depression.

We made it to the end of the 31 day challenge! I have a few more things to add to your arsenal in battling depression. If you’ve missed any of the 31 days, click on the link above. They will be kept on this site in their own tab for easy, future reference.

Aromatherapy can help calm us down and change our moods.

Suggested Scents:

  • Chamomile
  • Jasmine
  • Lavender
  • Neroli
  • Peppermint
  • Rose
  • Sandalwood

If there is a scent you really enjoy, use that!

Another tip I would give you is to slow down if your life is too busy. Evaluate what you really need to be doing and trim down the rest. If your life is too boring and you find yourself with nothing to do, get involved and fill up some of your time with regular, healthy activities.

Balance things. If your eating is out of whack, adjust. If you need to exercise, add it. Get a schedule and normalize your life and stick to it. And seek outside help.

Thank you for sticking with me for the entire 31 days! My advice is generic and not for everyone. My goal in this series is to give you some ideas for the battle. I hope there were a few suggestions you hadn’t thought of or some you hadn’t put into practice yet. I want you to feel better! There’s no lonelier place for me to be then in the pit of depression. I hate that anyone else has to experience that too.

Do today:

    • Memorize this scripture: He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. Psalm 91:4
    • See the doctor.
    • Writing Prompt: Write down the steps you will take to fight depression. Sketch out a daily schedule and stick to it for a few weeks. Did it help? Don’t forget to write what you are thankful for and act on it.  *If you would like a safe and free place to write, try this online journal at Penzu. It is password protected and you can even encrypt the journal if you need to. You can also use a fake name and junk email address for further protection. This way no one at home finds your personal diary entries.
    • Pray: Lord, thank you for your constant faithfulness. You are always there, even when I’m not able to see it. I pray for healing and management of my depressive episodes. Please steer me in the right direction. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Here are some reading suggestions for the fight:

The next 31 days we will be discussing depression and healthy ways to combat it but we’re going to get real too. Because for those of us who wind up in the pit often, we know platitudes and fluff pieces do nothing for us. My expertise is only based on my own very personal battles with depression and is no way, professional or medical advice. 1. Thanks so much for this series! I still have to go back and read the ones I’ve missed, but I’m saving all these links for days when I really need to be reminded I’m not alone.

Also, I definitely recommend the Boundaries book. My counselor had me read it and it was something we talked about a lot.
