You’re An Angry Elf

angry elves melinda toddThe statement, “He’s an angry elf,” speaks volumes in the movie ELF, when Buddy references the “infamous” writer, Miles Finch.

Miles is bossy, demanding, and rude. We could all come up with at least one person that could be considered an angry elf.

What do we do with people like this? It’s such a huge struggle. You recall exactly what that person said to you, word-for-word, the last time they insulted you, criticized you, or were rude to you. The list of their wrong doings gets long.

And then the Lord says, forgive. Keep no record of wrongs. Don’t hold grudges. Turn the other cheek. Forgive seven times seven.

Sigh…

Conviction.

“But mom, she pushed me first!” As a mom, you know the response. “It doesn’t matter who pushed who first, it’s not okay to push back.”

It’s so simple to tell children not to push back. Not to fight back. And then ignore that same advice when we deal with adults in our own lives. I’m guilty.

I admit, it is so hard to do. Sometimes, I don’t want to. I really, really don’t want to. Especially when it happens over and over again. Most of all when it hurts deep down. When you can’t find a reason for it or the place where things started to go wrong.

This holiday season, turn the other cheek. Forgive and let go because the only one held prisoner, is you. Pray for healing of your heart. Love back, even when you want to fight back.

Don’t be an angry elf.
