In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:6
When it came time to change the name of my blog, it came to me almost instantly. Somehow I knew I would always be Trailing After God and it just seemed fitting. I imagine following after something stunning and glorious and yet, never quite being able to catch up. I envision a hike so breath taking, you almost can’t breathe and yet, there is no time to stop and marvel at it all.
Sometimes, we arrive at a fork in the trail. I know you recognize it. Sometimes the right direction seems so abundantly clear, there’s no mistake where you are to go and then there are the times where you have no idea which course to take. You stop and pray and pray and pray some more, and still there is silence. We wonder if God is listening at all. It can be so frustrating because if you are like me, you’re pretty certain if left to your own devices, you’ll choose the wrong trail every time!
How often do we just barrel down a path and later realize we should have paused long enough to ask for guidance and now we’re in over our heads bumping along a really rocky and dangerous trail, scooting along the edge of a cliff, being careful not to plummet to our death?
Do you ever feel like you made the wrong decision and now you’re stuck in a bad situation with no hope? I know I do! I often wonder why I did that, why I said that, why I reacted like that! It can be so frustrating.
We have an assurance that goes beyond our bad choices and getting off the right path. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. (Prov 3:6). It doesn’t say, when you are headed in the right direction acknowledge Him. It doesn’t say only acknowledge Him when you’re not screwing up. It says in all your ways. So when you feel like you’re stumbling along and think you’re down the wrong path, acknowledge Him and ask for help. He will make your path straight. Ask what lesson you are supposed to learn from this situation and then trust Him to get you through it.
Love this post, we are in sync this week! And, that verse was one of the first ones that I memorized as a new Christian. I thought if I can just remember this one it’ll always be okay. I am well acquainted with the cliff you mentioned along with those poor choices, but I am equally acquainted with His out-stretched hand that faithfully rescues me from myself. I am so glad to be His! Blessings!
Great post, Mel. I love the peace of knowing Him and sensing His presence in every situation. Be blessed, my friend 🙂
