Watch Out! Road Construction Ahead!

Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6

As we buzzed along the highways one thing became inevitable. Road construction. It’s summer after all and it just goes with the territory of a road trip.

We traversed through rolling hills, mountains, forest, and desert but one thing remained the same. The roads need work and we had no control over where or when we had to stop. The choice for patience or frustration awaited each time those orange signs popped up warning of construction zones ahead. Either way, we were going to wait it out.

How often in life do we see warning signs for construction ahead? We may miss the warning signs that we’re about to undergo some serious changes. Frustration, panic and anger can set in quickly. Just like with road construction, we’re going to have to sit through it.

God doesn’t ask us if we are ready. We can choose to be still and wait it out, knowing He’s going to do the work the right way the first time. Or we can roll the windows down, screaming and throwing a tantrum. In the end, it doesn’t change anything.

Do you trust the one who created you and called you by name, to finish the job He has started in you? Be still my friend and let the construction take place.

Bring all who claim me as their God, for I have made them for my glory. It was I who created them. Isaiah 43:7

  1. Nicely done! I wrote about rough roads a while back on Strawberry Roan…this is a good reminder that those construction zones are going to happen and it is how we respond to them that matters! Bright blessings…

  2. This spoke right to my heart today! Thank you! Feels like I’m always at the road construction part and never get to the end of it..

    • I’m so glad Jen! I know what you mean. I guess in reality, we are always in a construction zone, constantly being changed and challenged. Hopefully not always with stuff that is hard!

  3. Love the analogy. So very true. I throw more tantrums than I’d like to admit sadly. Good reminder.

  4. I feel like Jen, I am always in the construction zone. What do you do if you feel like you’re never getting anywhere else? I want to move OUT Of the construction zone 🙂 I know God’s refining me but sometimes I want to call a time out.

    • I can completely relate to that. All we can do is press ahead and pray. Some seasons are long! I pray things improve for you.

  5. So true! It’s our attitude AND our faith that helps us brave sitting through the road work! Thank you for this 🙂
