Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. Matthew 24:42
As the proposed day of “rapture” approaches the one thing that really strikes me today is a feeling of sadness. I’ll admit when I first heard this group’s claims that those who are saved will be raptured on May 21st, 2011, I rolled my eyes and chuckled. It seemed like a big joke.
I realize now that there is in fact a group believing this will happen tomorrow. I stop laughing when I think of the lives damaged and the hearts hurt over the lack of being raptured.
We need to wake up! Folks are so desperate to see Jesus return (so am I) that they can be lead astray.
Does it really surprise anyone that we have people walking amongst us that hurt so badly here on earth that all they can hope for is Christ’s return? And we have others who will take advantage of that idea and prey on them.
Are we blind to those hurting souls? Do we turn our backs on them because they are possibly “one of them“.
You know, those clingy folks that you can’t shake if you are nice to them? Maybe we are oblivious or we figure someone else will do it. Are our lives so busy we can’t see beyond our busy bee schedules? I sure hope not.
What if it were you? Maybe it is you. What if no one wanted you? Soak in that feeling for a bit. Marinade in it.
Did you feel that sickening thud in your gut? Pretty awful stuff.
What would you do? Where would you turn? How easily could you fall prey to a cult teaching something that excited you, gave you hope, and made you feel important?
Come tomorrow, there are going to be some very sad people. Some maybe devastated and others may wait for the next “date” to be chosen.
If you know one of the members of this group, instead of teasing them, why not spend some time with them and find out what in their life would draw them to a predicted rapture.
When we take the time to truly listen to the why behind a belief, it opens our heart to truly understand and be compassionate towards another soul.
Clearly, if we don’t look around us and step out to be there for others, someone else will do it instead. Who knows who that someone might be.
So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. Matthew 24:44
