If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Matthew 7:11
This past Sunday our pastor spoke on Numbers 11. In this chapter the people have been rescued from Egypt but are now complaining and grumbling about their hardship and food. All they have to eat is manna and they miss having meat, fish, melons, cucumbers and more. The Lord granted their wish for meat. He told them they would eat it everyday for a month until it was coming out their nostrils! Yuck!
Have you ever sat in a place of waiting on God? Wondering what He was going to do and how you were going to survive it? Did you complain? I can admit I have and do. Maybe you have a made a move to another town or state and wondered, why did we ever do this? Why did God bring us here?
It can be very difficult when we are in a tough situation not to complain. God tells us to come to Him, all who are weary and He will give us rest. To pray and He will give us the desires of our hearts.
The Israelites weren’t praying to God and asking for His help or mercy. Instead every single family came to Moses’ tent wailing about the manna. Wailing! Can you imagine? Thousands of families coming to your tent wailing. Gives me a headache just imagining.
Listening to someone complain is draining. We all know someone like this. All they do is complain. Hopefully that person isn’t you or I. The next time that complainer comes to you, you can simply ask them if they have prayed about it. If they have not, encourage them to do so. If they have, tell them about the Israelites in Numbers 11 and tell them to stop complaining and leave it in the hands of the Lord.
Complaining grieves God’s heart.
If that complainer is you, my advice would be the same. Don’t complain to others. Get on your knees and pray for help, wisdom, guidance and tell the Lord how you are feeling.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
Blessings,
Lots of good stuff here to remember, Mel. Thanks for sharing! And yes….I definitely know people who fall into this category. Take care and keep the great posts coming.
LOL X 10!!!!
I find this EXTREMELY funny, so I want to share!
My husband and I are in a bit of a financial bind. I’ve been praying about it, and while praying about that and other things on the way to work this morning, God brought to mind the HUGE ABUNDANCE of deer sausage we have in our freezer! I didn’t think much about it at the time. I just thought it was a thought passing through my prayers. …..And I come in to work, open your blog and read this! LOL!!!!
Ok God. Gotcha. It ain’t like I won’t be able to feed my family anytime soon! They may grumble about deer sausage every night, but hey…we’re eating! I’m starting to feel like Bubba Gump! There’s deer sausage gumbo, fried deer sausage, grilled deer sausage, deer sausage speghetti, honey drizzled deer sausage, deer sausage po boys…. HAHAHAAAAA!!!!
Ang
LOL 🙂 You could be eating a lot worse!
Great reminder to be thankful and prayerful. I don’t want meat coming out my nose!
Oh man I was just complaining!! I was saying I have no one who cares! BUT GOD CARES!!! I just have to see that 🙂
My pastor preached on this last night! I knew it was to me. I had text his wife earlier in the day+asked for prayer. I have been having chest pain+was scheduled for a nuclear stress test.I was scared.I went to church in pain+what did he preach on? Maturity+complaining! I was offended. I had a legitimate complaint. How dare he saw that! How many times did he+others complain over the years! Mine was serious! Then I realized he didnt say that! God did! Who was I+How dare I say contrary! It is a good lesson, but a hard one when you are the complainer!
