Spiritual Warfare In My Mind

Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Eph 6:17

We do not war against flesh and blood (Eph 6:12). Have you ever considered your mind to be one of the battle fields for spiritual warfare? I know I battle in my own mind but somehow, this never crossed my mind. Not really anyway.

We are told to take the helmet of salvation along with the sword of the spirit. Why? Because our minds need to be protected. The bible doesn’t say we can protect our own minds. It says we need Christ to be the helmet that protects our minds and thoughts. He is our sword of the spirit. Our protector.

Satan uses our minds to get our attention and to lure us into sin. Think of how effective he is in manipulating our minds, especially in the USA. All he has to do is put it into the media and we buy into it, hook, line, sinker. A splash of a sexy man or woman on the tv screen can cause our minds to wander off in a lustful way. A magazine with the perfect actress on it leads us down the road of not being good enough, thin enough, pretty enough; you get the idea.

It doesn’t take much and we are off on a tangent in our minds, beating ourselves up because of all we lack. Can’t you just see him sitting back with a maniacal laugh? Captured.

We have a promise of the gift of a sound mind. We are also told to be transformed by renewing our minds (Romans 12:2).

This isn’t something that happens over night.  It’s not a one time deal either.  We must continue to renew our minds and continue to wear our helmet.  What do you do to ensure you have a sound mind?  We’re continuing this as a series this week.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Tim 1:7

  1. So with you! I battle my mind, a lot!

  2. As you know my hubby is bipolar, so he has dealt with a lot of intrusive thoughts. He swears by 2Corinthians 10:5, Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. It’s not a perfect quote, but that is the idea.

As for me, I haven’t gotten it down pat yet, but it really is a battle for the Truth.

  3. You are so right! We have to take every thought captive. Our enemy is prowling around waiting to ensnare us. Thanks for this great reminder today…one I definitely needed!

  4. So true. We definitely need to remember our helmets. One thing I do is to praise the Lord in all things. Acts like a bug zapper! 😀

  5. God does not give us a new body when we are saved; He does however give us a new disposition. God alters the mainspring; He puts love in the place of all our dysfunctions and impatient desires. The great marvel of the salvation of Jesus is that He alters heredity. We are indeed new creatures in Christ Jesus!

    Blessings,

    Mark
