Day 11 of 31 days of depression.

A good fiction book can be an excellent escape when life feels like too much or is getting you down.

Any old book will not do.

If you are grieving, perhaps a book that is lighthearted is a good choice.

Longing for love? Steer clear of romance.

I personally stick to Christian fiction most of the time, but more so when I am feeling depressed. I want to read things that make me think and inspire me.

If you are feeling really depressed, choose wisely when you grab a book.

You can find some of my favorite books on my bookshelf.

Do today:

    • Memorize this scripture: He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. Psalm 40:2
    • Writing Prompt: What is the one thing that really bummed you out today? What one thing really lifted your spirits today? *If you would like a safe and free place to write, try this online journal at Penzu. It is password protected and you can even encrypt the journal if you need to. This way no one at home finds your personal diary entries.
    • Pray: Lord, please help see your light today. Please lift this heaviness from my mind, body, and soul. In Jesus Name, Amen.

The next 31 days we will be discussing depression and healthy ways to combat it but we’re going to get real too. Because for those of us who wind up in the pit often, we know platitudes and fluff pieces do nothing for us. My expertise is only based 0n my own very personal battles with depression and is no way, professional or medical advice. 1. I love erading Christian fiction and an author that I enjoy because her stories cheer me up, is Jan Karon. I especially find an escape in the Mitford Series. It kinda reminds me of a modern day Mayberry…a place that’s wholesome and fun.

  2. I love good fiction, and have a list of authors whom I can pick up and just start reading…and they bring me up no matter what my mood is.

Journalling is something I cannot do, yet, I’ve tried and always that old stuff comes up where I cannot expose myself to someone, to be vulnerable to having my privacy violated. So I write poetry and I sing in the shower…and talk to the dogs!

    • Shanyn, that I understand. When I’ve done some bible studies that ask some really personal questions, I won’t answer them for fear someone in bs would read over my shoulder or someone would find them in my home and read them. I’m liking penzu though. You can use a junk email address and a fake name and encrypt it if you want. Feels much safer.
