Welcome to day 45 of our James Bible Study! Let’s dig into James 5:10-11.
Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. (NIV)
Read Job 1:1-12
Most of us are familiar with Job. If you’re not, take a little detour today and soak up the book of Job. God allowed satan to sift Job and take everything he loved. Every blessed thing. But satan was not given permission to lay one finger on Job’s person. God knows how everything will turn out in our lives. Satan does not.
I’ll be real honest. The story of Job freaks me out, because I can’t imagine losing my family and everyone I love dearly. Losing possessions would hurt too, but nothing like losing your loved ones and being left alone. How do you feel about this story? Do you have some insights to share with me? I’d love to hear them!
I love how James also says, “we count as blessed those who have persevered“. Once again, he brings home the point of perseverance. Yes, life may be really awful and hard here. But it isn’t forever. Someday, we will be pain free and living in the mansion of our dreams with our God. When I change my focus to those two facts, it changes my outlook on what I’m dealing with here on earth.
We’re just passing through! And oh boy, the rewards waiting!! Sit in that promise today.
Continue to memorize James 1:1-9. Write it out skipping every other word and then go back and fill those missing words in.
Blessings,
