Get Tougher Skin

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 2 Cor 12:9

Have you ever been told you need tougher skin?  Boy howdy, have I!  I heard it last week even.

The more I think about that, the less I like it.  Oh, I get the intellectual part of it, and to be a writer, I’ll need to get some tougher skin but as a woman?  As a child of God?  I pray I never lose my tender heart.

Without a tender heart, it means we’ve become hardened.  I never want to feel that way.  I want my heart to hurt when another hurts.  I want to empathize and sympathize with others.  Where would we be without compassion?  We’d be but a hollow shell.  Pretty on the outside, with no contents on the inside.  No love, no heart, no compassion, and no love of others.

We need to feel.  We need to be moved.  Because we are His hands and feet.

  2. So true! I sometimes think that it would be easier, if I didn’t feel but God made us that way for a reason.

    • Totally understand as I am very thin skinned myself. And I take things to heart when they are said or written.
