All over Facebook each year we see folks posting the things they are thankful for in the month of November. I do it, too.
This year my wheels have been spinning on how I can get the kids involved in being thankful in a tangible way. I finally figured it out.
Starting tomorrow, Veteran’s Day, we are going to sit down at the table and write thank you cards to those who have served or are currently serving our country. And then we will make a list of those they would like to thank for the next 11 days.
We won’t stop with just a thank you card. We will also deliver baked goodies to our local fire department and police department. My plan is to give a few suggestions and let the children run with the ideas and get excited about it.
On Thanksgiving, we will incorporate our Christmas tradition of serving a treat to those who have to work on Thanksgiving day. We’ve never done this on Thanksgiving so I think it will be a fun surprise for those we serve.
Of course I have a secret hope that the kids will enjoy this so much, they will want to continue doing it.
I will be sharing our experience and ideas with you here. Not to brag but to inspire you to take on this challenge. Let’s go beyond our words and impact our world around us with our thankfulness.
By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13:35 (NASB)
