Made To Crave Week 1, Day 2

What do I do when my weight feels like a curse?

Are you a rule follower? Are you craving your struggle – even if it’s not food – more than you crave God?

As we look at Matthew 19 again and this young man’s struggle to give up his riches to fully follow Jesus, we can easily put ourselves in his shoes. We may not be rich financially but if we are struggling with our weight and food, then we are rich in this area and it is going to be a battle.

If we can look at healthy options and make the healthy choices — and not feel deprived but instead feel empowered — everything will change. It will change us mentally, spiritually, and physically.

Do you ever feel that your struggle with food is unfair? Why or why not?

The rich young man is unwilling to deny himself; he doesn’t want to feel deprived of his possessions. Lysa had similar feelings about food. She once told God, “You can mess with my pride, You can mess with my anger, You can mess with my disrespectful attitude, but don’t you mess with my food.” How do you respond to the idea of allowing God to “mess with” your food?

What do you think will be different about this study? Have you ever invited God to be part of your weight loss plan?

Today’s Assignment

  • Read chapter one of Made To Crave. Note anything that stands out to you in the reading material.
  • In your journal write down one small change you can make right now.
  • Print out your week one printable sign and put it on the fridge. Remember, we are empowered to make new changes and begin this journey!

Today’s Fitness Tip

  • Hold it! Muscles like to be in motion, but they also thrive with isometric actions, which are held positions like yoga. Try standing with your arms open, like Jesus on the cross, for 1 minute. Squeeze your shoulder blades together and melt your shoulders away from your ears the whole time. ~ Women’s Fitness Specialist, Bethany Learn of Fit 2 B Studio

  1. I’m so glad you are doing this study. I love how the focus is on the Lord and not necessarily on weight and diet etc. Looking forward to the changes I know God is going to make through this.

  2. Thank you SO much for opening up this study for online access. I did a Daniel Fast two summers ago strictly for spiritual reasons. After reading the first two chapters of this book, I realize that I successfully lived for 3 weeks on a VERY strict vegan diet (wouldn’t do it for the sake of dieting 😉 because my focus WASN’T on the food, but on God.
