I Do It MYSELF! (toddler stomp)

Photobucket

I learned at a young age to be self reliant.  I haven’t asked my mom but I can totally see myself as one of those toddlers who says, “I do it MYSELF!” while stamping their foot.  I could be trusted home alone at a pretty young age.  I learned to wash my own laundry around 9 or 10 years old.  I couldn’t cook worth beans but that didn’t stop me from trying!  I remember some “doughnuts” I attempted.  They turned out like flat pieces of cardboard.  I still covered them in homemade chocolate syrup (which did turn out quite well) and ate them anyway!

Being self reliant can be a good thing but for me, it can also be my pitfall.  As a WAHM (work at home mom) I find that when I have my notes for my job, right in front of me everyday, I get excellent scores (yep we’re graded on how well we do).  Yet, when I put those notes aside, because well dang it, I’m a smart woman, and start relying on my own memory and myself, my scores go down some!

The same thing happens in my walk with Christ and in this life.  When I am IN the word daily and really focusing on my Lord and what He has for me, my life goes much more smoothly.  Mainly because when I get into a sticky situation or something starts to suck, I lean in.  Into the one who created me and loves me no matter what.  His word is fresh in my heart and mind and I am not as easily shaken.

Prov 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on yourown understanding;in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make yourpaths straight.

When I start to veer away from being in God’s word, being with God’s people, and rely on trusting myself, things get ugly.    Without His words freshly in me, I stop focusing on the One and Only and start trusting my mortal self.  It’s a dangerous game of cat and mouse.  The devil knows it, he prowls around looking for those of us who are going to rely on ourselves.  He can sense it, just like dogs can sense fear.  1 Peter 5:8

It’s time to make spending time with God a habit.  I know so many older folks whom I truly admire and it is because they seek God first and always.  They have a habit of worshiping with their Creator, every single day.  Not when times get tough.  Not when things are going well but every.  single.  day.  He is a part of who they are and without His word, they feel empty.

God doesn’t have a self help system.  There is no set amount of time that He requires of you.  He just wants you to make a priority out of being with Him.  If you need to just sit at His feet and be quiet, He’s okay with that.  If you’re angry with Him, lay it at His feet.  He’s strong enough.  He’s big enough.  Nothing you could every say or do will shock Him.  He’s not like your mortal friends who will shy away if you are brutally honest.  He will move in closer when you trust Him enough to hold you up when life is just too much.  Let’s face it, life is hard and it can really suck.  He knows.  He knows…

Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.  Matthew 11:28

I’m so like this too! Thanks for this post, and the reminder that we do not and cannot do this life alone, that God is there and wants us to lean on Him. Bright blessings!
